Configuration
Test
The configuration test is designed to test the
current configuration and highlight any potential problems. If all is fine then
the test will inform you so. However, any problems will be brought to your attention.
There are currently 3 tests that are performed...
Port
Conflicts
Since the program can be configured while it iss deactivated,
sometimes port conflicts cannot be detected until you try to
activate the server. A conflict can be caused by 2 things, either
two services are trying to use the same port or some other application
is already using a port. A common port conflict occurs between
the WebMail facility and an HTTP server you may have installed.
If this is so then we recommend that you change the WebMail
port to something like 8000 and then access WebMail with a link
such as http://yourip-or-host-address:8000.
Outgoing
Mail Errors
If
you have enabled outgoing mail then it is possible that the
test may inform you that an error as occurred with the current
outgoing mail setup. If you are using 'Independent' mode, then
there are 3 possible problems... a bad DNS host, unable to retrieve
DNS list or unable to retrieve any information via the DNS list.
If you are using 'Relay' mode, then it is possible that the
given SMTP relay is unreachable. You will find more information
on how to solve these problems in our trouble
shooting section.
Security
Problems
At
the moment the only security warning will reflect the outgoing SMTP status. If
the outgoing SMTP is enabled but you did not enable any of the security options
the test will warn you of this.
We
recommend that you perform the 'Configuration Test' when ever you are experiencing
problems with Ability Mail Server, if this doesn't help find your problem then
you should try our trouble shooting section.
