Maps
Domain
maps give you the power to control how particular domains are handled and can
be used to serve multiple purposes. They allow a server to be configured to act
as a backup server, a relay, to create static routing for domains, to convert
multiple domains into just one and much more. These domain map rules are applied
to all incoming mails (SMTP and WebMail) before they are processed for local or
external delivery.
Domain
- When you first create a domain map, this is the text box where you enter the
domain which is being mapped (ie code-crafters.com). No
Conversion - This
turns off the Redirection / Conversion rule. Convert
Email Address -
All emails addressed to the domain will be redirected to this email address. This
email address can be a local address or external address.
Convert
Domain - This allows you to combine multiple domains
or just directly convert one domain into another (eg. if we
setup our mail server to convert code-crafters.co.uk
into code-crafters.com, sales@code-crafters.co.uk emails
would be delivered to sales@code-crafters.com).
Additional
Re-send Attempts - This only applies if the received mail is to be placed
into the outgoing mail queue. This is commonly used in backup server configurations
and allows you to increase the holding time for emails. This value is added to
the value on the Outgoing Mail settings and allows you to increase how many attempts
mails to this domain will be given when sending to an external account. Use
Normal 'Outgoing Mail' Settings - This only applies if the received mail is
to be placed into the outgoing mail queue. This ensures that if this mail is to
be sent to an external account, the normal Outgoing Mail settings will be used. Via
SMTP - This only applies if the received mail is to be placed into the outgoing
mail queue. This option allows you to specify what SMTP server the mail should
be delivered to (for static routing). Regardless of your Outgoing Mail settings
(as long as the Outgoing Mail service is enabled). This SMTP will always be used
for emails to this domain. Visible
to Incoming SMTP - During Incoming SMTP email transactions, each destination
email address is filtered to ensure that no unauthorized email addresses are accepted
for relaying. Enabling this option will ensure that any email addresses to this
domain are accepted on the Incoming SMTP.
Please Note:
The domain mapping rules are applied to the incoming mail after
the mailing list rules. This means that addresses added to the
email as a result of the mailing list rules are still affected
by the domain mapping rules. If any of the email addresses in
the email are affected by the domain mapping rules then the
email is then reprocessed against the mailing list rules. This
cycle will continue up to 200 times or until the email is no
longer affected by either the mailing list rules or the domain
mapping rules. This makes Ability Mail Server very flexible
and also gives you the option to create very complex mail routing
paths if required.
